Omaha Hi

Omaha Hi Short Description

Omaha High is a two- to ten-player poker game popular in the US and abroad for its fast pace and relatively simple rules.

Omaha Hi consists of a maximum of four betting rounds. Once the blinds have been placed (see Blind Bets below), four private pocket cards are dealt face down to each player. During play, five community cards are placed face down in the centre of the table and shared between all players.

At the end of the fourth and final betting round, there is a "showdown": the player with the best five-card hand, consisting of two of the four pocket cards and three of the five community cards, wins the pot.

Before 'Sitting-in' (participating) at a 888poker.comIn Omaha Hi, players are required to pay an initial fee ("post") equal to the Lower Limit bet for that table.

The post follows the same rules as a blind bet (see Blind bets below).

After the betting, players take their seats at the Omaha High table.

Players can exit (not participate) before the start of the game and wait for the big bet. Posting prevents players from joining a poker game in "late position" and thus avoiding the blinds, ensuring fairness for all players.

3. The Blind Bets

In Omaha Hi at 888poker.com, the ante does not "seed" the pot. Instead, the paths are formed by "forced" bets called "blinds".

Before the initial deal of the cards, the Blind Bets are placed:

  • The first blind bet is called the "small blind" and is made in a clockwise direction, starting with the player to the left of the dealer. The bet amount for a small blind bet shall be half the lower limit of the bets at the table. At tables where the minimum bet is $1 or more, the amount of the small blind shall be rounded down to the nearest $1;
  • The second blind bet is called the "big blind" and is placed clockwise by the player to the left of the dealer. The bet amount for the big blind bet is equal to the minimum bet on that table.

The big and small blinds in Omaha High Poker are considered "live" (active) bets that can be checked, called, raised or folded according to poker rules.

After the mandatory bets have been placed, four cards are dealt face down to the seated players.. Cards are dealt clockwise, one after the other, starting with the player to the left of the big blind.

The first betting round starts with the first seated player, clockwise from the left of the big blind.

4. The Betting Rounds & Limits

888poker.com Omaha Hi has four betting rounds. The amount a player wagers in each betting round is determined by the Lower Limit Bet and the Upper Limit Bet (the amount wagered) on the table.Limits, Antes & Rake"How to play" on this website). The lower betting limit for a table is always half of the highest bet (e.g. $1/$2 or $5/$10 tables).

  • In the first two betting rounds of Omaha High Poker, players bet a multiple of the table's lowest bet;
  • In the last two betting rounds of Omaha High, players bet multiples of the highest bet on that table.

Omaha High at 888poker.com is played according to traditional poker betting circles. The betting rounds are always played in a clockwise direction. Each player is.

  1. Check - Pass the option to act to the next active player;
  2. Betting - The first step in the betting round determines the amount that each subsequent player must deposit into the pot to stay in the game;
  3. Raise - an increase in the pot for each of the following players who remain in the game in the second, third and fourth betting rounds;
  4. "Call - calls the bet of the previous active player in that betting round and stays in the game (in the first betting round, each player must call at least the big blind);
  5. Fold - to fold and stop participating in the game. The player forfeits the amount wagered on the game.

Traditional poker rules state that a player can bet no more than once and raise no more than three times ('raise', 'raise' and 'cap') in each betting round. Once the cap is reached, the next players can only call or fold.

A Betting Round is concluded when:

  1. All active players have Checked in turn;
    Or
  2. All active players call the bets of the last player to bet or raise on the turn;
    Or
  3. All previous active players have decided to resign, leaving only one active player. This remaining player automatically wins the pot, automatically ending the betting round and the game.

After the community cards have been dealt in each of the following three hands ('flop', 'turn' and 'river'), the betting round is played. The betting round starts with the first active player (the player who has not folded), clockwise from the dealer's left.

5. The Showdown

If there is more than one active player in the hand at the end of the fourth betting round, a "showdown" will take place.

In a showdown, each active player uses any combination of two of their four pocket cards and three of their five community cards to create the highest-value five-card poker hand possible.

888poker.com follows standard poker rules when determining the rank of a poker hand.Hand Ranking Chart section of this site);

The active player with the highest hand wins the pot.minus the pot won by the player with the higher all-in hand (see section below).Limits, Antes & Rake in the how to play section of this site).

The cards are shuffled before each hand.
