Satellite Tournaments are a huge part of the online poker tournamentVenue. Well-known pros like Chris Moneymaker have made a fortune in satellite tournaments. These types of tournaments have smaller buy-ins and give access (instead of cash) to bigger tournaments with higher buy-ins. In some cases, several 'tiered' satellites are available to enter the desired tournament.

To view the satellite tournaments in 888poker, click on "All Games" >> "Tournaments" >> "Satellites".

The purpose of satellites is to offer players with low bankrolls the opportunity to participate in larger tournaments with higher buy-ins. You only need to qualify for the higher tiers to enter the bigger tournaments.

Chris Moneymaker entered a $39 online satellite tournament, which earned him $2.5 million in the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event.

Why Play Satellite Tournaments at 888poker?

  • In high buy-in tournaments, you can bet small amounts and win big.
  • If they make it into the main draw, they will have the unique opportunity to play against some of the best players in the world.
  • With multi-tiered satellites, you can play with inexperienced players as well as experienced "sharks". It's a great way to "grit your teeth".

  • If there are too many steps, you may be tempted to give up halfway.
  • Many satellites are usually turbo or superturbo tournaments.

Is this Tournament Type for You?

Satellites are ideal for players with a small bankroll who want to enjoy champagne. If you attend an event via satellite, you are only risking a fraction of your bankroll. And, you can make quite a few attempts until you get it right.

If you’re just starting out in pokerIf you want to play in expensive tournaments (but don't want to because you don't have a lot of money), satellites can be a great option.

Satellite Tournament Strategy Tips:

  • Know How Many Entries are Awarded:Check the number of seats. It may make sense to double the number of seats andplay tighter if there are a lot of seats going.
  • Play More Satellites that Have Multiple Awards:They are often easier to install in satellites with multiple winners and seats.
  • Play to Win at the Start, then Survive:In satellite prize games, the early stages are all about collecting chips, while the latter stages are all about getting through the bubble and "winning" the prize money.
  • Make Sure You Can Play the Target Tournament:If your goal is to compete in a target event, make sure you don't compete (I don't know how many people make this mistake and end up not competing).
  • It’s Okay to Take Chances:Many satellites are turbo or super-turbo tournaments. Be open to playing combinations when you are short of chips so that you are not "blind".
